Do Cleanings Matter?

As dentists, we recommend coming to see us every six months. We recommend this because it allows us to check your teeth’ health and properly clean them. However, we do have patients ask if seeing us every six months is necessary; it is.

Between visits, your teeth accumulate bacteria, plaque and tarter. While you get rid of bacteria with daily brushing, plaque and tarter are more challenging. Seeing us every six months allows us to clean your teeth properly, removing the plaque and tarter.

Dental cleanings keep your teeth clean and serve as a preventative treatment. When you don’t take care of your teeth, you put yourself at risk for gum disease, tooth decay and other dental issues. The result of not taking care of your teeth is that you’ll need more extensive treatment to solve these issues, such as root canals or even losing the teeth.

Coming in every six months is cheaper in the long run because you can avoid needing extensive treatment. We love seeing our patients and seeing how their teeth are doing. As dentists, we are trained to see the early signs of dental issues. We can see what’s happening in your mouth when you visit us regularly. We can intervene if we see the early signs of cavities or other dental issues.
