Toothbrush Types

Manual

A manual toothbrush means a battery or charger does not power it; you power it. There are plenty of options when it comes to manual toothbrushes. You can choose them by the bristle types.

Electric

A battery or charge powers electric toothbrushes. These are widely available, like manual brushes, but can be more expensive. We often recommend investing in an electric toothbrush, which is more effective at breaking up plaque and bacteria.

Heads are available for electric toothbrushes. Typically, they are sold in packs compatible with the electric toothbrush you already have. When looking for a head, use a round head or diamond head. These types of heads clean your teeth and gums better.

Bristles

The type of bristle you get is essential. Medium or Hard bristles can cause damage to your teeth. Because they are too hard, they can damage the enamel and hurt your gums.

Soft bristles are the way to go. You still clean your teeth when you use soft bristles, but don’t risk damaging them. Soft bristles are soft for a reason: they protect your teeth.

Tips and Tricks

To keep your teeth healthy, replacing your toothbrush or brush head every three months is best. Brushing twice daily leads to a build-up of bacteria in the brush head, so it’s best to replace them and keep your mouth healthy. Brush your teeth twice a day. We like to use a saying: “Brush in the morning to keep your friends; brush at night to keep your teeth.” Don’t brush too hard; brushing hard will strip the enamel and hurt your gums. It’s best to brush gently in a circular motion. We also recommend gently brushing at an angle to get under your gums.
